Letters, Essential and True - The mind is wonderful at discerning the subtlest of clues. Even very young children kow, by your vocal inflection whether you are confident or unsure. Letters are my voice. They are versitile and inspirational. I listen. I reflect. Then I craft custom words that seek to express the heart of true communication. Preliminary Studies - I generate first phase studies by hand, using a brush, calligraphy pen, or marker. These black and white studies are scanable for use in your preliminary design comps. Refinement - After feedback from the client, I refine the preliminary studies, or create new ones.
Refinement of Existing Art - Clients regularly send me files they started. These projects usually entail: Updating an existing brand, Embellishing a typeface to make it more proprietary, Making visual and mechanical corrections to type that has been digitally manipulated or hastily cobbled together. Final Art - I create all final art as scalable, vector art in Adobe Illustrator. Letterforms with rough edges are scanned, converted to outline and refined. Smooth-edged letterforms are completely redrawn in Illustrator.
